The media portrays beauty as having big breasts and a curvy round bottom. For most women, the expectations are unrealistic and difficult to achieve naturally. To get this type of look, butt injection is often the best option. When it comes to butt augmentation, there are generally two options: Butt implants or butt injections. The latter is becoming increasingly common, but the cost and health risks of these procedures can vary greatly.

As you may have guessed, butt injections involve the injection of a medical grade silicone substance into the buttocks. Butt injections tend to be a permanent solution

Types of Butt Injections.
Types of Butt Injections

PMMA Injections

PMMA fillers are comprised of 20 percent PMMA microspheres, which as suspended in 80 percent collagen gel. After the injection, the collagen begins to break down and your body starts producing its own collagen to fill out the space underneath the skin.

Hydrogel Butt Injections

Hydrogel butt injections are similar to PMMA injections. Hydrogel is injected into the buttocks to enhance its appearance and add curves. Unlike PMMA, hydrogel is a bit more difficult to work with and requires a skilled surgeon to sculpt the buttocks and ensure that the results are symmetrical.

Macrolane Buttock Injections

Macrolane injections are marketed in the UK and Europe as a temporary non-surgical breast enhancement. Some call Macrolane a "boob jab". Macrolane uses hyaluronic acid and is designed for shaping breasts, calves and buttocks.

Not all butt injection procedures are created equal and some of the ones listed above are illegal in the United States.

Other Butt Enhancement Options

Butt injections are the minimally invasive option, but butt implants are also available. During the procedure, an implant is inserted into the buttocks to enhance its shape. The procedure is similar to breast augmentation, and the results vary. Depending on your body type and the experience of the surgeon, butt implants may look just as natural as injections.

Which Buttock Augmentation Procedure is Best?

PMMA butt injections are banned in the United States as the FDA has deemed the drug to be dangerous. But this hasn’t stopped many men and women from traveling abroad to have the procedure performed. PMMA injections may be harmful to your health, so beware.

Hydrogel butt injections are also banned in the United States by the FDA for the same reasons PMMA injections were banned. The procedure is minimally invasive, but largely impractical. Much like PMMA injections, hydrogel is injected into the buttocks to enhance its appearance. However, a significant amount of hydrogel is needed to really be effective. Approximately, 200 cc’s of hydrogel would be needed for the procedure, and just 1 cc can cost anywhere between $300 and $500 (if purchased in the United States).

What’s the Average Cost of Butt Injections?

The cost of butt injections largely depends on the type of procedure you elect. PMMA and hydrogel injections are banned by the FDA, so no board certified, reputable plastic surgeon will perform this procedure. It is possible to have the procedure performed outside of the United States, but the risks are very high and this option is not recommended.

Hydrogel injections cost, on average, $500 per cheek. The fat transfer to buttocks cost (Brazilian butt lift) is much higher and can range anywhere between $12,000 and $18,000.

Recovering from the Procedure

Recovering from a buttock augmentation can take anywhere between two and four weeks. Butt injections typically requires two weeks of recovery during which you cannot sit directly on your bottom.

Most surgeons recommend wearing a pressure garment 24/7 (except to shower) during the recovery process. This garment reduces the pressure on the buttocks and minimizes the risk of fat dissolution. Some surgeons may also supply a compression garment that will need to be worn after the liposuction for two weeks before the injections.

It can take as little as six to eight days for the swelling and bruising to subside. For some patients, the process can take more than two weeks. Bruising and pain are common and should subside quickly. If pain persists, you should contact your surgeon or physician as soon as possible.

Physical and employment related activity can typically resume within two weeks. During recovery, you will need to sleep either on your side or your stomach.

If you are considering butt injections, it’s important to research your options and choose a surgeon that is well-qualified.
